International BIU-IST MSc program in Brain Sciences, Data Science track
The program focuses on combining neuroscience and data science. The study topics include advanced courses in these fields in both Bar-Ilan and Lisbon. In Bar-Ilan the emphasis is on topics of brain research and in Lisbon on topics in biological engineering. In both institutions, students will specialize in understanding and deciphering signals from the nervous system.
Program Partner Institutions
The Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, Bar-Ilan University
The Leslie and Susan Gonda (Goldschmied) Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University brings together researchers in a variety of fields which are essential to understanding the brain, including psychology, physics, linguistics, computing and biology.
Research at the Gonda Center studies the brain at all levels - from behavior and cognitive processing through detailed mechanisms of information processing in neural circuits, to the analysis of vital molecules within nerve cells. Research approaches cover all techniques from personal interviews, through electro physiology and from molecular biology to abstract mathematical modeling. The Gonda Center attracts new, top-flight researchers from Israel and around the world.
Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon University
IST is the largest school of engineering, science and technology and architecture in Portugal.
The Bioengineering Department is the most recent department at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the engineering school of the University of Lisbon. The department is strongly multidisciplinary and covers the most relevant areas of Biomedical Engineering, including biomedical imaging, biosignals and instrumentation, as well as biomaterials, nanotechnology and regenerative medicine.
The topics of neuroengineering, neuroimaging and brain-computer interfaces are of special importance for this program. The faculty associated with these topics develop their research activities in the research institutes affiliated with IST: Institute of Systems and Robotics – Lisboa (ISR-Lisboa), Telecommunications Institute (IT), and INESC-ID.
Important partnerships with national and international research institutes in neurosciences in close connection with public and private hospital infrastructures are established in the scope of this research activity.
