International MSc in Brain and Data Science

Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon University and Multidisciplinary Brai Research Center, Bar-Ilan University

We are pleased to announce a unique new international Master's degree in collaboration between the Lisbon Institute of Technology at the University of Lisbon and the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University – the Joint MSc in Brain and Data Science.

A joint degree is a great way for two highly-respected universities to join forces in order to offer students the best possible education in their fields of interest.

This new program will expose students to fresh ideas, new scientific paradigms, different ways to conduct research, and innovative ways to explore science – with more experts in their fields of study than they would’ve had in only one university.

Students enrolled in the Joint MSc in Brain and Data Science at either university may participate in the program. The first year will be at their home university and the second year at the partner university. This degree will be taught entirely in English and graduates will receive a degree certificate from both institutions.

The program focuses on combining neuroscience and data science. The study topics will include advanced courses in these fields at both Bar-Ilan University and the Lisbon Institute of Technology. At Bar-Ilan, the emphasis will be on brain research issues and at Lisbon, topics will focus on biological engineering. In both institutions, students will specialize in understanding and deciphering signals from the nervous system.

The new Master’s is a multidisciplinary program. Applicants are accepted according to the admission requirements for a Master's degree at Bar-Ilan University’s Center for Brain Research and Master's degree at IST (University of Lisbon). The Gonda Multidisciplinary Center for Brain Research receives nominations from all the natural sciences, psychology, and more.

Students who wish to complete the second year of their Master’s degree at the Lisbon Institute of Technology will apply during the first year of their studies (and vice versa). Acceptance will depend on the students' success in their first-year courses.

Bar-Ilan University’s MSc in Brain and Data Science was developed in 2020 and is the first of its kind in the country. The new joint Master’s degree with the Lisbon Institute of Technology is a welcome evolution of this program and will allow students to study at leading universities in both Israel and Europe.
